If you are in Ottawa or thereabouts and have no pressing plans this evening, come to my place and we will sing all evening. Songcircle is a gathering that happens twice a month, first and third Fridays, in various people’s homes. Tonight it is in my home in Vanier. Gmail me at maura.volante for the address (trusting you humans can figure out the email address from this information while it is less obvious to creepy crawlies). This is a social gathering, not a class, and there is no charge.
We start with an optional potluck dinner about 6:30, then move on to singing at about 7:30. I’ll start us off and then each person takes a turn around the circle. When it is your turn you can do one of the following: lead everyone in singing a song of your choice; sing a solo while we quietly listen; ask someone else (specific or general) to lead either a song of your choice or of theirs; or pass (but this is highly discouraged). Instruments are welcome and there is a piano for those who want to play it. We stop for tea and desserts at around 9:30 and then sing some more, until 11.
If you can’t make it tonight but you want to be informed about future songcircles, contact me and I will pass you on to the keeper of the listserv.
If you don’t live in Ottawa, and you think this sounds like fun, you can start one in your community. It is a great way to bring some group singing into your life: no performance anxiety, just lots of fun. If you want more information about how to run it or have any questions about the format, contact me via my gmail address above.
Happy singing, everyone!
