I am really excited to announce that I am doing a concert this fall. I discovered a new performance venue in town, mostly used for jazz at this point, but it seems perfect for folk songs. It is small enough for an acoustic show in which we will all hear each other when people sing along.
It will be all traditional material this time, combining two of my favourite folk song forms: ballads and sea songs. Ranald, Dale and Neville are going to help me, adding some male voices to the mix, and everyone is welcome to sing along with all the choruses.
Details below. Comments and questions welcome.
Ballads & Sea Songs
with special guests, Ranald Thurgood, Dale Morland & Neville Miller
(part of Alcorn Music Studio)
953 Gladstone Avenue

8 pm (doors 7:30)
$10 in advance, $12 at the door*
Come listen and sing along with Maura Volante and friends in an evening of traditional folk songs from Canada, the British Isles and the open sea.
The ballads tell archetypal stories of murder, heartbreak, accidents and, occasionally, happy endings.
These will be balanced out by rollicking sea shanties, the work songs used by sailors to help them with their heaving and hauling all over the globe.
Tea, coffee, cold drinks and baked goods will be available at intermission
* If this is a hardship, speak to the person at the door for a discount.
